At First Hebrew Congregation, we prepare boys and girls to be competent and confident about Jewish values, rituals, and culture. Every student receives mentoring to develop his or her own relationship to Judaism. We are able to work with students across a range of learning styles and abilities.
The Bar/Bat Mitzvah is an adolescent’s extraordinary rite of passage, a touchstone to a Jewish life, and a portal to one’s Jewish heritage. Education leading up to the opportunity to be called to the Torah as a Bar or Bat Mitzvah enables the young person to invest in his or her own personal development. We feel it is our sacred responsibility to help provide this education to the student together with the family. Moreover, this opportunity is open to all, with or without prior Jewish education.
